Frequently Asked Questions

  • At Temenos, your therapy journey will either start off with a connection call or you may like to book in directly via our booking page or contacting us for an initial appointment. Your journey will look something like this…

    01. Connection Call

A free 15 minute initial phone consultation can be booked in to discuss your needs to ensure you are comfortable in the service you are looking for.

    02. Initial Appointment

The first initial session is a space for you to share your concerns, reasons, hopes, worries etc. and any important information you feel I may need to know to best support you. This is a time for you to get to know me also and determine what our ongoing work together will look like. We can determine, based on your needs, how often you would like psychotherapy and how I can be of best service to you.

    03. Ongoing Sessions

Within the subsequent sessions and beyond, I will work with what areas you would like to address. I will always work at your pace.

Initially, clients often book for weekly or fortnightly to help maintain traction of our work together. The amount of subsequent sessions is dependent on what your needs are and the level of support you are wanting. Typically clients will come in for 3-8 sessions for particular concerns with others coming over periods of years.

    04. Check In’s

As a therapist who has already worked with you, I endeavour to provide you a space to check back in when you need it. This may be for a ‘check in’ or for additional concerns that have arisen.

Like we do yearly ‘check up’s ‘ at the GP for our physical health, some clients like to book in ‘check in’s’ for their emotional and mental wellbeing. This is a space for you to come back when you need additional support. This could look like bi-monthly, quarterly or yearly check-in sessions where you have space to check in with yourself with the support of a therapist that knows you already.

  • Life happens and sometimes we cannot make it, that is okay! Please let me know as soon as possible if you are unable to make it so we can reschedule or offer the appointment to someone else.

If cancellation occurs under 24-hours or no-show to the appointment, unfortunately we will need to charge a 50% fee (depending on circumstance).

If you can’t make it physically to the appointment but still want to attend, we can arrange for the appointment to be via phone call or online instead.

  • At this stage, we do not accept private health insurance or Medicare.

We have created our fees to be similar to the typical gap you would pay for a psychologist after a Medicare rebate to minimise upfront costs.

Private health insurance rebates will be available in the near future.

  • We work with children aged 13+, adolescents and adults. A potential element of a young person’s counselling may involve family therapy, this is dependent on the requests and needs of the young person I work with.

I do not provide couples or relationships counselling (2 or more people) at this stage.

  • Yes we do, we can work with anyone from in Australia or over the world online. We provide secure online therapy through Google Meet.

Adelaide clients can choose to come into our in-person therapy space in Walkerville or can choose to attend therapy online.

  • Absolutely! Your right to privacy and confidentiality are of the utmost importance to us. We want to do the most we can to support you to feel secure and comfortable during our sessions together.

What you share with your therapist will be kept strictly confidential. We are committed to maintaining the privacy of your sessions, including the collection, recording, storage, dissemination, and disposal of any information we discuss.

It's important for you to know that, as a psychotherapists, we have a legal obligation to disclose information in specific circumstances.

    These rare situations include:

    • if you share concerns about the safety of a child, minor, or vulnerable adult

    • if you express intentions of harming yourself or others

    • if I have reason to believe that you are at immediate risk of harm, I may need to take appropriate action to ensure your safety and well-being

    • if I am legally subpoenaed to provide the release of session notes and your records to the court

Please know that these exceptions are in place to prioritise your safety and that of others. If any of these circumstances arise, your therapist will always make every effort to communicate openly with you and work together to address the situation compassionately and responsibly.

Our collaboration is built on a foundation of trust, respect, and care, and we are dedicated to creating a safe space where you can explore your thoughts and feelings freely. If you have any questions or concerns about confidentiality, please feel free to discuss them with your therapist.

  • In a nutshell, psychotherapists approach therapy from a humanistic perspective, emphasising empathy and personal growth. We don't diagnose or adhere to a medicalised model.

In contrast, psychologists often operate within a more clinical, medicalised framework and some are able to diagnose mental health conditions. While there are exceptions, clinical psychologists typically follow this approach.
